Excessive sleep, lethargy, fear, anger, laziness and procrastination are six inner weaknesses that can stand in the way of personal growth. Traditional wisdom teaches that anyone who wishes to achieve progress in life must learn to overcome these six faults.
Six Weaknesses That Prevent Progress
According to a traditional Sanskrit teaching, a person who desires prosperity and progress should give up six weaknesses known as Shad Doshas.
1. Nidra – Excessive Sleep: Sleep is essential for good health, but excessive sleep can reduce productivity and waste valuable time. Maintaining a healthy sleep routine helps a person remain active and focused.
2. Tandra – Lethargy: Tandra refers to a state of tiredness, dullness, inactivity or lack of enthusiasm. A person affected by lethargy may struggle to take initiative or complete important responsibilities.
3. Bhayam – Fear: Fear is a natural human emotion, but excessive fear can prevent people from taking opportunities, making decisions and trying new things. Confidence and courage help overcome unnecessary fear.
4. Krodha – Anger: Uncontrolled anger can affect relationships, decision-making and peace of mind. Learning to control anger and respond calmly helps a person handle difficult situations wisely.
5. Alasya – Laziness: Laziness prevents a person from putting ideas into action. Even a person with knowledge and ability may fail to achieve goals without consistent effort and discipline.
6. Deergha Sutra – Procrastination: Deergha Sutra refers to the habit of delaying work or unnecessarily postponing tasks. People who repeatedly put off important responsibilities may miss opportunities and struggle to achieve their goals.

The Message: Overcome Inner Weaknesses to Achieve Progress
People often consider external challenges to be the biggest obstacles to success. However, their own habits and weaknesses can sometimes create greater barriers. Excessive sleep can waste time. Lethargy can reduce enthusiasm. Fear can prevent action. Anger can disturb relationships. Laziness can weaken effort, while procrastination can delay achievement. Overcoming these six weaknesses requires self-discipline, confidence, patience and consistent action.
Moral: A person who wishes to achieve real progress in life must first learn to conquer their own weaknesses. Victory over inner obstacles is an important step towards lasting success.
