Mullai Muhilan Leaves Dakshina Kannada, Students Fear No More Rainy Day Holidays |
Mangaluru, June 17, 2025: In a significant administrative reshuffle, Mullai Muhilan M P, IAS (KN: 2013), the much-loved Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada District, has been transferred with immediate effect. He has been appointed as Inspector General of Registration and Commissioner of Stamps, Bengaluru, relieving Sri. Pommala Sunil Kumar, IAS, from concurrent charge. The news of his transfer has sparked concern among school and college students in the district, who cherished his responsive governance, particularly his announcements of holidays during heavy rainfall.
Known for his connect with the public, especially the youth, Mullai Muhilan earned the affection of students by promptly addressing their requests for school and college closures during inclement weather. Social media was abuzz with posts from students expressing their fondness for the DC, who they fondly called “the rain holiday hero.” His transfer has left many wondering whether the new Deputy Commissioner will be as empathetic to their pleas.
“My friends and I always looked forward to Mullai sir’s announcements when it rained heavily. He understood our safety concerns. Now, we’re worried about who will replace him and whether they’ll be as kind,” said Ananya, a college student in Mangaluru.
The Karnataka government’s order, part of a larger IAS reshuffle, also saw Sri. Darshan H V, IAS (KN: 2016), Additional Commissioner for Commercial Taxes, Bengaluru, appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada District, succeeding Mullai Muhilan. While the incoming DC brings a wealth of experience, students are anxious about whether their tradition of rainy day holidays will continue.
Mullai Muhilan’s tenure in Dakshina Kannada was marked by proactive administration and community engagement, making his departure bittersweet for residents. As he takes on his new role in Bengaluru, the children of Mangaluru hope their new DC will carry forward his legacy of warmth and responsiveness.
