KSRTC Bus Service to Kolthige Village Resumes July 1, 2025, After Public Demand

Puttur, June 20, 2025: Residents of Kolthige village in Puttur taluk, who have been grappling with the suspension of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus services for the past two months, can now breathe a sigh of relief. Following a strong demand from the local community, the Puttur KSRTC depot has assured the resumption of bus services to the village starting July 1, 2025.

A delegation led by Kolthige Gram Panchayat president Akkamma, along with panchayat members and Congress leaders, submitted a memorandum to the Puttur KSRTC depot manager, urging immediate restoration of bus services. The delegation highlighted the hardships faced by students and residents due to the disruption, which has severely impacted their daily commute.

“The suspension of KSRTC bus services has caused significant inconvenience to students and the general public in Kolthige. We urged the depot authorities to address this issue at the earliest,” said Amal Ramachandra, chairman of the Puttur Town Planning Authority, who was part of the delegation.
The delegation included Kolthige Gram Panchayat vice-president Pramod K.S., members Pavan D.G., Vedavathi, and Yashoda, along with Congress leaders Ramachandra Sorake and Ravindra Rai Nekkila. They emphasized that the bus services, which had been operational in the region for years, were critical for the connectivity of the rural area.

Staff Shortage Behind Suspension
Puttur KSRTC depot manager Subrahmanya Bhat attributed the suspension to a shortage of drivers and conductors. “The lack of staff has been a challenge, but recruitment is underway. We expect 80 new staff members to join the depot by July 1, enabling us to restore bus services to Kolthige as before,” Bhat assured the delegation.
