Puttur: Monsoon Intensifies in Karnataka with Heavy Rain and Gusty Winds

Karnataka Weather Forecast: Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds Hit Puttur, Belagavi | July 2-6, 2025

Puttur, July 2, 2025: Karnataka is set to experience a spell of heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds across its coastal and interior regions from July 2 to July 6, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The monsoon activity is expected to intensify, bringing heavy rain and sustained winds of 30-50 kmph to several districts, prompting authorities to issue weather alerts and advisories for farmers.

Puttur and Coastal Karnataka Face Moderate to Heavy Rainfall

Puttur and the rest of Coastal Karnataka are seeing some real rain lately—not just a sprinkle, but solid, moderate showers that could mess with your daily plans. Winds are picking up too, hanging around 30-40 kmph. Over in Uttara Kannada, some places are in for even heavier downpours, so keep an eye out if you’re in the area. Locals in Puttur should stay alert, since cloudy skies and rain might throw a wrench in both everyday routines and farming work. Farmers, heads up: if your sugarcane or chili crops are ready, now’s the time to harvest before the weather gets any wilder. And if you’re getting ready for Kharif sowing, take advantage of any break in the rain while you can.

North and South Interior Karnataka on High AlertIn North Interior Karnataka, districts like Belagavi and Dharwad are likely to witness heavy rainfall with gusty winds of 40-50 kmph at isolated spots from July 2 to 5. Other districts, including Bidar, Bagalkot, Koppal, and Kalaburgi, can expect light to moderate rain with similar wind speeds. South Interior Karnataka, including Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, and Shivamogga, is also forecast to experience heavy rain at isolated places, while Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, and Mysuru are likely to see light to moderate showers.
The IMD advises farmers to withhold irrigation for crops like banana and sugarcane, provide support to prevent lodging, and undertake deep ploughing to improve soil moisture retention. The IMD’s five-day forecast indicates cloudy skies across North Interior Karnataka, with heavy rain expected to persist in Belagavi, Dharwad, and Gadag on July 5.
Farmers are advised to procure high-yielding, drought-resistant seeds for Kharif crops like paddy, maize, and pulses, and to treat them with fungicides to prevent diseases. Additionally, contour bunds and mulching are recommended to conserve rainwater and maintain soil moisture.
Authorities have urged residents to take precautions, especially in areas prone to waterlogging and strong winds. Poultry farmers are advised to protect chicks and birds from gusty conditions. With the monsoon in full swing, Karnataka prepares for a wet week ahead, balancing agricultural opportunities with the challenges posed by intense weather.
