Puttur, July 28: The revered Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya Samsthanam Sri Edneer Math is all set to begin the Sixth Chathurmasya Vratha of Sri Sri Sachidananda Bharathi Swamiji from Wednesday, July 29. The 60-day spiritual observance will continue until September 26, drawing devotees and visitors from Karnataka and Kerala.
The inaugural day will also mark the commencement of a 60-day Kannada Cultural Programme, coordinated by Sri Gopalakrishna Yakshagana Kalamandali (Regd.), Edneer, with the support of the Karnataka Border Development Authority.
The day's programmes will begin at 9.00 am with Bhajana Sankeerthana by Sri Gopalakrishna Mahila Bhajana Mandali, Edneer, followed by the formal inauguration of the cultural series.
The inaugural function will be presided over by Rajmohan Unnithan, while Somanna Bevinamarada will inaugurate the programme.
The chief guests include Aravind Bellad, Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, and C. H. Kunhambu. Industrialists Krishnamoorthy Manja of Hyderabad and Mahabaleshwara Bhat of Edakkana, Dubai, will grace the occasion.
A felicitation will be held for renowned musician Anooru Ananthakrishna Sharma in recognition of his contribution to Indian classical music.
The cultural programme at 5.00 pm will feature a Carnatic Flute and Hindustani Harmonium Jugalbandi Concert by flautist M.K. Pranesh and harmonium maestro Dr. Raveendra Katoti, accompanied by Ananthakrishna Sharma on mridangam and Roopak Kallurkar on tabla.
The Chathurmasya celebrations are expected to witness daily religious rituals, devotional programmes, and cultural events over the next two months, making Edneer Math a major spiritual and cultural destination in the border region.
The organisers have invited devotees, music lovers, and the general public to participate in the inaugural function and the 60-day celebrations.
