Bengaluru, July 12: Veteran journalist, environmental writer and Yakshagana scholar Na. Karantha Peraje was conferred the prestigious Be. Su. Na. Mallya Award at the Vishwa Samvada Kendra Karnataka Media Awards ceremony held in Bengaluru on Sunday. The award recognizes his decades-long contribution to journalism, rural communication, agriculture, culture and environmental awareness.
A familiar name among readers of Adike Patrike and the Kannada media fraternity, Peraje has devoted much of his career to documenting the lives, challenges and innovations of farmers, while also writing extensively on environmental conservation and the cultural heritage of coastal Karnataka.
The awards ceremony brought together journalists, media professionals and public intellectuals from across the state. Addressing the gathering, the speakers highlighted the role of value-based journalism and the responsibility of media in strengthening an informed society.
This year's VSK Media Awards also honoured several distinguished media personalities. K.N. Channegowda, Editor of Vijayavani, received the Ti. Ta. Sharma Award; Nagarjun Dwarakanath, South India Editor of India Today, was presented the M.V. Kamath Award; Ranganath Bharadwaj, Chief Producer at TV9 Kannada, received the Chandrashekar Bhandari Award; noted columnist Dr. Arakalagudu Suryaprakash was honoured with the Ho. Ve. Sheshadri Award; and popular RJ and digital creator Rashmi R. Rao (Rapid Rashmi) received the Digital Media Award.
For Dakshina Kannada, Peraje's recognition is a matter of pride. Through his writings and editorial work, he has consistently highlighted grassroots issues, sustainable agriculture, community initiatives and traditional knowledge systems. His contributions to the study and promotion of Yakshagana have also earned him widespread respect among cultural enthusiasts.
The Be. Su. Na. Mallya Award adds another significant milestone to a career marked by commitment, credibility and service-oriented journalism. Colleagues, readers and admirers across Karnataka have welcomed the honour, describing it as a fitting recognition for a journalist who has remained deeply connected to the land, its people and its culture.
