Mangaluru, July 26: Eligible voters in Dakshina Kannada need not panic if their names are missing from the electoral roll after the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The Election Commission has assured that eligible citizens will still have an opportunity to get their names included.
Although the review meeting was held in Mangaluru, the instructions apply equally to Puttur taluk. Voters in Puttur whose names are missing from the electoral roll after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) can still apply through Form-6. They can also approach their local Booth Level Officer (BLO) or the nearest voter facilitation centre, or call the Election Commission's 1950 helpline for assistance. Dakshina Kannada has set up 1,098 facilitation centres to support voters during the SIR process.
Speaking at a review meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner's office in Mangaluru, Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer V. Anbukumar said that even if an eligible voter's name is omitted from the final electoral roll, they can submit Form-6 along with the required documents and declaration to have their name added.
He also clarified that people who could not return their Enumeration Forms within the prescribed time need not worry. They will also be allowed to apply for inclusion after the publication of the final voter list.
To help citizens during the Special Intensive Revision, 1,098 voter facilitation centres have been set up across Dakshina Kannada district. Voters can also contact the Election Helpline 1950 for assistance regarding voter registration, corrections, inclusion, or other election-related queries.
The Chief Electoral Officer directed Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to speed up the digitisation of Enumeration Forms and carefully verify cases involving voters who have shifted residence, passed away, or whose names appear in multiple electoral rolls.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V. said the district has 18,03,766 registered voters. Enumeration Forms have been distributed to all voters, and 14,97,139 forms (83%) have already been digitised. A total of 65,588 voters have been identified under the ASDD category for detailed verification.
The Election Commission has appealed to all eligible voters to verify their details and complete the required formalities in time to ensure their names remain in the electoral roll.
