Puttur, July 20: A total of 480 youths from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts participated in a day-long police recruitment training programme held in Puttur on Sunday to prepare candidates for the upcoming Civil Police Constable and Armed Reserve Police recruitment examinations.
The training programme was organised by the Rai Charitable Trust, led by Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai, with the aim of helping aspiring candidates improve their physical fitness and prepare for the physical efficiency tests conducted during police recruitment.
According to Ashok Kumar Rai, 526 youths had participated in the first training session held last week, while 480 attended Sunday's programme. Police department personnel and physical education directors guided participants on the physical standards and preparation required for recruitment drives expected to be conducted by the Karnataka State Police (KSP) and the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) after about three months.
Speaking on the occasion, Rai said the initiative was launched to encourage more youth from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi to secure government jobs, particularly in the police department, where representation from the two districts remains comparatively low.
He also announced plans to organise similar coaching programmes for competitive examinations for the posts of Village Accountant, Revenue Inspector and Surveyor in the coming months.
Highlighting employment opportunities in the region, Rai said the proposed Government Medical College in Puttur could create nearly 10,000 jobs. He also encouraged eligible candidates to apply for teaching positions in residential schools and Karnataka Public Schools.
Addressing the participants, the MLA stressed the need to focus on regional development and employment opportunities. He said Dakshina Kannada still has significant development potential and called for greater emphasis on securing government investment and creating opportunities for local youth.
