Puttur–Uppinangady, Puttur–Subrahmanya Roads: Arun Kumar Puthila Urges Immediate Repairs After Inspecting Dangerous Potholes
Puttur, Aug. 1: Social leader Arun Kumar Puthila and his team inspected two major road stretches in the Puttur region on Saturday and urged the Public Works Department (PWD) to take immediate action to improve road safety and complete pending repair works.
The team first visited the 34th Nekkiladi stretch near Vanasuma Nursery on the Puttur–Uppinangady Road, where several large and dangerous potholes have developed. They later inspected the Bedrala stretch on the Puttur–Subrahmanya Road, where repeated repair works have failed to provide a lasting solution.
Repeated Repairs Fail; Permanent Road Solution Sought
Puthila said the Bedrala road has undergone three interlocking block repairs within a year, yet the problem continues because of what he described as unscientific execution of the work. He also pointed out that barricades placed after the latest repair have remained on the road for the past 15 days, causing inconvenience to motorists.
He demanded the immediate removal of the barricades to restore smooth traffic movement. He further urged the PWD to remove the interlocking blocks after the monsoon and construct a permanent concrete or bituminous (asphalt) road instead of carrying out repeated temporary repairs.
Puthila also called on the department to immediately fill dangerous potholes between Bedrala and Sarve. In addition, he requested officials to complete the roadside drainage system, stating that water from culverts currently flows directly onto the road, accelerating damage to the surface and creating hazardous driving conditions.
He warned that during rainfall, potholes become filled with water, making them difficult for motorists to detect. This significantly increases the risk of accidents and poses a serious threat to public safety.
Following the inspection, Arun Kumar Puthila discussed the issue with PWD Chief Engineer Rajesh Rai and urged him to direct the concerned officials to immediately repair the potholes, complete the drainage works, remove the barricades, and begin permanent road improvement measures at the earliest.
