Speaking during the visit, Rai said the situation could have been more serious if the retaining wall had not been constructed at the location. “Several houses could have been affected if the retaining wall had not been built here,” he said.
MLA Ashok Kumar Rai said residents had earlier sought residential sites and were issued title documents, after which the hill area at Kolya was identified for housing. He questioned why the land had not subsequently been developed into residential plots and made suitable for construction.
Rai said he had visited the area during the previous election period and understood the ground situation. He added that a retaining wall was later constructed at a cost of ₹2 crore.
He said the retaining wall had helped prevent a more serious situation and potentially saved lives. KPCC coordinator Kavu Hemanath Shetty and Kolya resident Ratnavathi also spoke during the visit.
Aryapu Block Congress president Girish Rai, INTUC president Jayaprakash Badina, Congress leader Hanif Bagumule and Santhosh Bhandary Chilletharu were among those present.
