Subrahmanya, 11 August 2026: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed the Subrahmanya and surrounding Western Ghats region on Monday, flooding a road at Cheru in Bilinele Kaikamba and disrupting traffic on the Subrahmanya–Gundya route.
Around three feet of water accumulated on the road at Cheru, forcing traffic to be temporarily stopped. Vehicles were seen lined up on both sides of the flooded stretch as motorists waited for the water level to recede.
Traffic movement resumed after the rain weakened and the water gradually drained from the road. Heavy rain continued across the Subrahmanya region from Monday morning until late evening. The downpour also resulted in a rise in the water level of the Kumaradhara River.
Rain reported across rural areas
Good rainfall was reported from several parts of the region, including Kaikamba, Bilinele, Nettana, Ainekidu, Balugodu, Hariharapallathadka, Kollamogru, Kalakaru, Nadugallu, Guthigar, Olalambé, Kamil, Mogru, Yenekallu, Balla-Kenya, Beedigudde, Panja, Karikkala, Nintikallu and Alekkadi.
Intermittent sunny spells were also reported between periods of rain. With heavy rain continuing in the Western Ghats, the rise in the Kumaradhara River level and waterlogging on roads remain areas of concern for commuters in low-lying and flood-prone stretches.
