Puttur, 11 August 2026: More than ₹615 crore has been released to around 3.77 lakh beneficiaries in the Puttur Assembly constituency under the State government’s five guarantee schemes, according to officials at a review meeting held on Monday.
The figures were presented during a progress review meeting of the Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee at the Puttur Taluk Panchayat mini conference hall. Committee chairman Umanath Shetty said the benefits were being transferred directly to beneficiaries without intermediaries and that efforts were being made to address shortcomings in the implementation of the schemes.
While reviewing the schemes, Shetty stressed the need to assess the impact of the programmes at the beneficiary level and identify success stories. Referring to the Yuva Nidhi scheme, he cited the example of a young woman who is reportedly pursuing an MD degree with support received under the programme.
The meeting also focused on issues that require attention from various departments. Shetty directed Food Department officials to ensure regular inspections of ration shops and prevent complaints regarding shortages in rice distribution.
Concerns relating to public transport were also raised. Participants pointed out that students and working women should not face difficulties due to buses failing to stop at designated locations, particularly during evening hours. The meeting called for action against staff found violating operational guidelines.
Officials from different departments presented updates on the implementation of the schemes. Those present included Puttur KSRTC official Subrahmanya Prakash, MESCOM Assistant Executive Engineer Shivashankar, District Employment Exchange representative Manjusha, Women and Child Development Department Project Officer Harish and Food Department official Saraswathi. Taluk Panchayat Planning Officer Shobha also attended.
Local Issues Highlighted
The review meeting highlighted difficulties faced by residents of the Uppinangady region in submitting applications under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme. Members suggested that the local committee hold a dedicated meeting in the area and take corrective measures to improve access to the scheme.
The need for a transformer near the Subrahmanya Temple at Hirebandady was also raised, with participants urging the authorities to take up the work on priority. The meeting concluded with a call for closer monitoring of the schemes to ensure that benefits reach eligible beneficiaries efficiently while addressing implementation gaps reported from different parts of the constituency.
