Puttur, August 31, 2026: Hindu organisations held a ‘Puttur Chalo’ public awareness march in Puttur on Monday, August 31, condemning an incident that reportedly took place at a shop in the Darbe area a few days ago.
Protest programme was organised under the aegis of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagarana Vedike. The protest march began at 11 a.m. from near the Darbe BB junction and proceeded towards Mahathobara Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, where the programme concluded with protest meeting.
According to the organisers, people from different parts of Dakshina Kannada district participated in the programme and extended their support to the ‘Puttur Chalo’ campaign.
Five Demands Raised
Hindu organisations put forward five major demands in connection with the incident:
- Register an attempt-to-murder case and take stringent action against those accused of assaulting Anjana.
- Take action against Niyaz and Naushad under the Goonda Act.
- Conduct a comprehensive investigation into the alleged role of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) in the incident.
- Stop filing baseless cases against activists of social organisations.
- Ensure that the police conduct an impartial investigation without succumbing to political pressure.
