Citizen AI Prompt of the Day | A simple way to organise scattered thoughts and tasks

Many of us write things down quickly. A phone number. A reminder. A payment to make. A meeting. A document to submit. Something to buy. Later, these notes can become difficult to understand because everything is written in one place and in no particular order.

AI can help turn those rough notes into a simple to-do list. You don't have to rewrite everything neatly first.

Step 1: Write down your rough notes

Start with whatever you have. Don't worry about spelling, grammar or order.

For example: Call Ravi about meeting. Pay electricity bill. Buy printer paper. Friday college meeting. Send monthly report. Submit scholarship application before September 30. Call plumber.

These notes contain several different tasks, but they are mixed together.

Step 2: Open an AI chatbot

Open ChatGPT or another AI chatbot. You can use the AI tool on your phone or computer.

Step 3: Give AI a clear instruction

Copy this prompt:

Turn these rough notes into a clear to-do list. Group similar tasks, arrange them by priority and identify deadlines mentioned in the notes.

Then paste your rough notes underneath.

Step 4: See how AI organises them

Instead of one paragraph, you may get something like:

Important / Deadline - Submit scholarship application- before September 30

Calls
  • Call Ravi about meeting
  • Call plumber
Payments
  • Pay electricity bill
Shopping
  • Buy printer paper
Work
  • Send monthly report
Meeting
  • College meeting — Friday
The information is now much easier to scan.

Step 5: Ask AI for a checklist

You can take it one step further.

Ask:

Turn this into a checklist with boxes that I can tick after completing each task.

This can make the list easier to use throughout the day.

Step 6: Ask AI to organise your day

If your notes contain several tasks, you can also ask:

Arrange these tasks into a practical plan for today and tomorrow. Do not add any new tasks or information.

This is useful when you have a busy day and need to see what needs attention first.

But remember: AI should not invent information

This is one of the most important lessons when using AI.

If your notes say:

Meeting Friday

AI should not assume the exact date, time or location. If your notes don't mention a deadline, AI should not create one. If the priority is not clearly stated, treat AI's suggested priority as an organisation aid, not as a fact.

For important tasks, always compare the AI-generated list with your original notes.

Where can you use this?

This simple prompt can be useful for:

  • Students: assignments, exams and project work
  • Office workers: meetings, reports and follow-ups
  • Business owners: customer calls, payments and orders
  • Families: shopping, appointments and household work
  • Journalists: interview follow-ups, documents and story tasks
  • Anyone: everyday reminders and personal tasks

The simple AI lesson

You don't need to write a perfect prompt every time. Tell AI what you have and what you want it to do.

Here, you have rough notes. You want a clear, organised to-do list. That's enough to get started.

Today's Citizen AI Prompt

Turn these rough notes into a clear to-do list. Group similar tasks, arrange them by priority and identify deadlines mentioned in the notes.

Try it with your own notes today. You may be surprised how much easier a messy list becomes when it is organised clearly.

Responsible Use of AI

AI is a tool to assist you, not replace your own judgement. AI-generated content may sometimes be inaccurate, incomplete or misunderstood. Always review and verify important information before acting on it.

Do not share passwords, OTPs, bank details, Aadhaar numbers, confidential documents or other sensitive personal information with AI tools. For legal, financial, medical, government or other important matters, verify information with the relevant official or qualified source.

Use AI responsibly, protect your privacy and think before you act.
