Puttur 26 September 2026: Puttur Industrial Association has called for the development of the existing industrial area at Mukrampady and demanded a new industrial area spread across 50 to 100 acres to meet the growing demand from entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the association's annual general meeting for 2025-26 held at its office in the Mukrampady industrial area on September 26, association president Keshava Amai said the existing industrial area has 31 plots but lacks several basic facilities.
He said roads are available in the area, but proper markings and related facilities are lacking. There are also problems with adequate water supply and electricity. According to Amai, the area faces low-voltage problems, while an electricity transformer is located in the middle of a road, creating difficulties for industrial units and movement.
Demand for new industrial area
Keshava Amai said there are several applications from entrepreneurs seeking land to establish industries in Puttur. He urged the authorities to identify 50 to 100 acres of government land and sanction a new industrial area.
“The existing industrial area is not adequate. A new industrial area is necessary to meet the demand for starting industries,” Keshava Amai said. He also called for the existing Mukrampady industrial area to be developed with proper basic infrastructure.
Industrial Association completes nearly 40 years
Keshava Amai said the Puttur Industrial Association, which was established in 1986-87, is approaching its 40th year. He urged members to actively participate in the activities of the association and support its future plans.
Keshava Amai said the association had incurred expenses while travelling to Mangaluru and Bengaluru for registration and other official work, but these expenses were personally borne by members rather than being charged to the association. He said the association is currently facing financial constraints and appealed to members to extend their support.
Association owns property worth several crores of rupees, he said, adding that plans are being considered to commercially develop the property. This could generate revenue for the association, he said. Keshava Amai also appealed to members to cooperate in the effort to establish a new industrial area and create better opportunities for the next generation.
New office-bearers to be selected
Annual general meeting also included the selection process for office-bearers for 2026-27. Vishwaprasad Sediapu conducted the election process. Meeting also discussed amendments to the association's comprehensive bylaws, and approval was obtained for the proposed changes.
Members including Mohan Bolladi, Padmanabha Shetty, Suryanatha Alva and Harish Putturaya shared their views. Former president Shivashankara Bonanthaya appreciated the work being carried out by the association under the leadership of Keshava Amai. He said several pending issues had moved forward during the current term and described Amai as an important driving force behind the association.
Association founder president Dr. P.K.S. Bhat, executive committee member Prasanna Kumar Rai and SIDCO Society president T.V. Ravindran were present.
SRK's Deepak led the prayer. Vice-president Mohammed Sadiq K.P. welcomed the gathering. Treasurer Leo Martis presented the accounts, while executive committee member Surekha read the notice. Raviraj Bhat read the minutes of the previous meeting. The general secretary presented the annual report and proposed the vote of thanks.
