Gokarna, 26 September 2026: Sri Raghaveshwara Bharati Mahaswamiji, Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Sri Ramachandrapura Math, said modern science has also recognised differences between milk from indigenous cows and crossbred cows.
Speaking at the Annam Brahma series during the Annabrahma Chaturmasya programme at the Math’s Ashoke premises in Gokarna on September 26, 2026, the seer said indigenous cow A2 milk and ghee have traditionally been considered superior.
He said modern science and Ayurveda describe the benefits of indigenous cow products in different ways. According to him, Ayurveda refers to qualities such as supporting digestion, while modern science studies their physical and nutritional properties.
Raghaveshwara Bharati said the growing focus on money has made it difficult for society to discuss such issues openly. He also spoke about the use of ghee in Ayurvedic medicines. He said traditional indigenous cow ghee has an important role in Ayurveda as a Yogavahi, a substance believed to help carry or enhance the action of medicinal ingredients.
“Ghee has the potential to transform life and make it divine,” he said, while explaining what he described as the traditional strength of indigenous cow ghee.
‘Rishis Saw Beyond What Was Visible’
Swamiji also spoke about the difference between scientific observation and the knowledge attributed to ancient Indian sages.
He said merely wearing the appearance of a sage does not make a person a Rishi. According to him, a true sage is one who can perceive what is not visible to ordinary eyes. He said modern scientists mainly analyse physical properties, while the ancient sages are believed to have gained deeper knowledge through their wisdom and insight.
Chaturmasya Concludes with Seemollanghana
Two-month-long Chaturmasya vrata undertaken by Raghaveshwara Bharati concluded with Seemollanghana. As part of the conclusion, he offered fruits to the Gangavali River and visited the Kengal Parameshwari Temple at Torke. He also blessed devotees at the temple. Pradeep Naik Devarabavi, Mahesh Shetty, Venkataramana Kauri and members of the temple administration were present.
Participation from Different Communities
Chaturmasya programme saw participation from devotees associated with different communities traditionally connected with Sri Ramachandrapura Math. According to the Math, representatives of 23 communities offered Swarnapaduka Puja during the programme as a mark of their traditional devotion to the Guru.
60 Days of Focus on Food and Traditional Cuisine
Chaturmasya placed special emphasis on food and traditional dietary practices. Organisers said this was the first time that a pontiff associated with the Math had given such detailed guidance on food through a series of discourses. For 60 days, Raghaveshwara Bharati spoke on different aspects of food, including what he described as the right and wrong approaches to food in daily life.
Traditional food preparations from the coastal Karnataka and Malnad regions were also featured throughout the 60-day programme. Chaturmasya concluded with participation from devotees and members of different sections of society.
