Mangaluru, 3 October 2026: Although the Karnataka government has declared Dasara holidays for schools from October 3 to 21, several schools in Dakshina Kannada district have been permitted to conduct classes until October 7 to compensate for academic days lost due to heavy rains earlier this year.

The decision follows the loss of instructional days in July, when several days of holidays were declared in the district following heavy rainfall on the orders of the district administration.

School managements subsequently approached the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), seeking permission to conduct classes during the initial days of the Dasara vacation to make up for the lost academic days. Based on these requests, the DDPI has reportedly issued an internal order permitting schools to conduct classes until October 7.

Classes to continue in several Puttur schools

In Puttur, several schools have already informed parents through mobile messages that classes will be conducted during the initial days of the Dasara vacation.

According to messages sent to parents, schools have planned classes on the forenoon of October 3 and full-day classes from October 5 to 7. Students have been instructed to attend classes on these days.

Arrangement is intended to compensate for instructional days lost during the monsoon-related holidays while retaining the remainder of the scheduled Dasara vacation. Parents are advised to follow the specific schedule communicated by their respective schools, as the class arrangements may vary between institutions.
