Bengaluru-Kannur Express Delays Spark Passenger Outcry in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, June 27, 2025: The Bengaluru-Kannur Express (Train No. 16511) has been running significantly late in recent days, causing inconvenience to daily commuters, causing inconvenience to day by day commuters, specially those touring to and from Mangaluru. The Western Ghats Railway Passenger Development Committee has written to the Divisional Railway Manager of the South Western Railway’s Mysuru Division, urging immediate action to ensure the train adheres to its scheduled timetable.

The train, which operates via the Hassan-Kunigal route, is a preferred choice for many coastal passengers due to its shorter travel time to Bengaluru. Its schedule is especially convenient for students and working professionals commuting locally. However, the committee highlighted in its letter that the train has been arriving late in Mangaluru, disrupting passengers’ plans.

While landslides near Yedakumeri previously caused delays, the issue has since been resolved. The cancellation of the Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Express due to ongoing track electrification work has further increased reliance on the Bengaluru-Kannur Express. Hanumanth Kamath, president of the committee, emphasized in the letter that the railway authorities must take steps to ensure the train reaches Mangaluru on time to alleviate passenger woes.

The South Western Railway has not yet issued an official response to the committee’s request, but passengers are hopeful for prompt action to restore punctuality.
