Mangaluru, July 17: In view of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued heavy rainfall across Dakshina Kannada district and the issuance of an Orange Alert, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has declared a holiday for educational institutions up to Class 12 on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
The order, issued by Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, applies to:
All Anganwadi Centres
Government Primary Schools
Aided Primary and High Schools
Private Primary and High Schools
Residential Schools
Pre-University Colleges (up to Class 12), including residential PU colleges
No classes shall be conducted on July 18. The district administration has warned that violation of the order will invite legal action under Section 51(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

The district administration has also issued the following safety instructions:
Parents are advised not to allow children near low-lying waterlogged areas, lakes, rivers, or the seashore.
Fishermen have been directed not to venture into the sea.
Tourists and the general public are advised to stay away from riversides and beaches until weather conditions improve.
District and taluk-level officials have been instructed to remain at their headquarters and respond promptly to emergencies.
Concerned departments have been directed to keep relief and care centres ready in all taluks.
