Gokarna, July 25: Gokarna, one of Karnataka's most sacred pilgrimage destinations, is preparing to host the 33rd Chaturmasya Vrata of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji of Sri Ramachandrapura Matha from July 29 to September 26, 2026.
This year's 57-day spiritual observance has been named Annabrahma Chaturmasya, with the message that "Food is Divine." The initiative encourages people to respect food, avoid wastage and adopt healthy food habits based on Indian traditions.
Inspired by the Upanishadic teaching "Annam Brahma", the Chaturmasya highlights the spiritual, cultural and scientific importance of food. The Matha says food is not just a source of nourishment but the foundation of life, health and well-being.
Throughout the 60 days, Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji will deliver daily discourses and conduct religious programmes focusing on balanced nutrition, sattvic food, mindful eating, fasting, proper hydration and traditional dietary practices. The programmes also aim to create awareness about lifestyle-related health issues and responsible food consumption.
Sri Ramachandrapura Math has been choosing a unique social theme for every Chaturmasya. Last year's Swabhasha Chaturmasya promoted the correct use of one's mother tongue. This year, the focus is on respecting food and understanding its role in physical health, spiritual growth and environmental sustainability.
Speaking about the theme, Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji said the Upanishads describe food as a manifestation of the Divine. Through the Annabrahma Chaturmasya, devotees will learn the deeper meaning of food and its importance in leading a healthy and meaningful life.
The Chaturmasya will include major religious events such as Sri Vyasa Puja (July 29), Sri Krishna Janmashtami (September 4), Sri Ganesha Chaturthi (September 14), Seemollanghana (September 26) and the Annabrahma Mahasamarpana (September 27).
The Matha has also invited devotees to participate in Annadana (food donation) during the Chaturmasya. Contributions can be made through online payment or directly at the venue, allowing devotees to take part in the sacred service of feeding pilgrims and visitors.
Thousands of devotees from Karnataka and across the country are expected to participate in the 60-day spiritual event, making Gokarna a centre of devotion, learning and service.
