Puttur, 12 September 2026: A degree is only a steppingstone towards a career, while pursuing higher education and making the right career choice after graduation can play a decisive role in shaping a student’s future, said Dr. P. N. Udayachandra, retired principal of SDM College (Autonomous), Ujire, and research guide at Srinivas University, Mangaluru.
He was speaking as the resource person at a special workshop titled ‘Unlocking Opportunities’, organised at Vivekananda College, Puttur, in association with the Training and Placement Cell, Department of Commerce, Department of Business Administration and IQAC.
Dr. Udayachandra said students aspiring to build careers in banking, the public or private sector, or pursue professional courses such as Chartered Accountancy (CA) and Company Secretary (CS), need to develop a research-oriented mindset and gain a clear understanding of the opportunities available to them.
He emphasised that success in higher education depends on choosing the right institution and making consistent efforts towards one's goals.
Presiding over the programme, Vivekananda College Principal Prof. Srikrishna Ganaraja Bhat S. said B.Com and BBA degrees are not limited to a few conventional career options. Students can explore a wide range of services, professions and employment opportunities beyond the traditional career paths associated with these courses.
“There is no shortage of opportunities. If students choose the right path and work consistently towards their goals, they can achieve success,” he said.
IQAC Coordinator and Head of the Department of Commerce Dr. Ravikala and Head of the Department of Business Management Rekha were present on the occasion.
Third-year BBA student Dhanalakshmi welcomed the gathering, B.Com student Chaithra Poojary delivered the vote of thanks, and BBA student Deepti Prabhu compered the programme.
