Siemens Consortium Secures Rs. 4,100 Crore Contract for India’s First High-Speed Rail Project |
Bangalore, June 17, 2025: In a significant milestone for India’s ambitious high-speed rail initiative, a consortium led by Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon Private Limited, Siemens Limited, and Siemens Mobility GmbH has been awarded a Rs. 4,100 crore contract by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL). The contract, part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, positions Siemens to deliver cutting-edge signaling and telecommunication technologies, marking a transformative step in India’s rail modernization journey.
Siemens Limited’s share of the contract, valued at Rs. 1,230 crore, encompasses the design, installation, and long-term maintenance of advanced systems, including the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2-based signaling and train control technologies. These systems will enable safe and efficient train operations at speeds up to 350 km/h, supporting real-time train supervision, continuous wireless communication, and centralized traffic management. The project, slated for completion within 54 months, also includes 15 years of maintenance services to ensure long-term reliability.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor, a flagship project under India’s National Rail Plan 2030, aims to revolutionize intercity travel by connecting two of India’s key economic hubs in just over two hours. The 508-km corridor will integrate state-of-the-art infrastructure, aligning with global standards for high-speed rail travel.
Sunil Mathur, Managing Director and CEO of Siemens Limited, expressed pride in the partnership, stating, “This project reflects our commitment to ‘Make in India’ and delivering technologies that promote sustainable and future-ready mobility.” The deployment of ETCS Level 2, a globally proven signaling standard operational in over 50 countries, underscores Siemens’ expertise in delivering world-class rail solutions.
This landmark contract not only strengthens India’s position in adopting advanced rail technologies but also reinforces Siemens’ role in driving sustainable infrastructure development in the country. The project is expected to set a benchmark for future high-speed rail initiatives, paving the way for a modern, efficient, and eco-friendly transportation network.
